Today, our innovative education initiatives reach more than 1,600 schools in 20 states. Programs include rehearsals and performances at the Met, Live in HD movie-theater transmissions, family education, school residency programs, workshops for teachers, educational research, and collaborations with colleges and universities throughout the U.S.

As one of the world’s preeminent opera companies, the Met has been home to many of the greatest singers, conductors, directors, designers, and choreographers ever since its first performance in 1883.
