Family Open Houses

The Met’s family programming includes two annual open houses. Our popular Holiday Open House, prior to a matinee performance of the abridged, English-language version of Mozart’s The Magic Flute, allows children and families to take part in hands-on musical explorations and experience behind-the-scenes demonstrations by members of the Met’s backstage and artistic staff—including musicians, actors, dancers, and members of the Wig and Costume Shop and scenic departments. Building on the success of this event, last season the Met debuted a Spring Open House prior to a matinee performance of Puccini’s La Bohème. This season’s Spring Open House will precede a matinee performance of Gluck’s Orfeo ed Euridice on May 19. Family Open Houses are free for ticket holders to the day’s matinee performance.
