In this series, the Guild’s Public Programs producer Paul Gruber hosts conversations with five great Met artists—events that are sure to be equally entertaining and revealing. Each discussion will include photo reminiscences and rare video performance clips.
One of great American Verdi singers of his generation, this extraordinary artist was the baritone
standard-bearer at the Met for more than three decades, singing 653 performances of 35 roles. A
frequent guest on opera stages around the world, he was also a prolific recording artist, with hundreds
of titles to his credit.
