OPERA LEARNING INSTITUTE  

August 2 - 7, 2020 

EARN 37 NYSED-CTLE CREDIT HOURS!   

We are pleased to announce that The Metropolitan Opera Guild's School Programs department is now a certified sponsor of Continuing Teacher and Leader Education programming for the New Your State Education Department. Eligible participants may earn up to 37 hours of CTLE credit by attending the 2020 Opera Learning Institute. (NYC-DOE employees may also apply to receive 3 ASPDP P-Credit hours. An additional fee to ASPDP is required to receive this credit.)

What is OLI?  The OPERA LEARNING INSTITUTE (OLI) is a week-long intensive professional development workshop that helps educators build the knowledge and skills needed to incorporate the elements of opera into general classroom instruction.
   
Why OPERA?  Opera is arts rich and multi-disciplinary; involving musictheatermovementdance, and visual arts! Through opera-based-learning, students have opportunities to learn and grow in several art forms simultaneously. Additionally, using the elements of text analysislibretto (script) writingmusical compositiontheatrical design, and staging can help teachers bring their general curriculum alive in new and interesting ways for students.  
   
Who is OLI for?  Educators of students in grades PK - 12; (general classroom teachers, arts/other specialists, curriculum/department heads, and administrators)
   
Where is OLI?  Most of the Opera Learning Institute sessions will be held in The Juilliard School on the campus of Lincoln Center. (Some sessions will take place at The Metropolitan Opera House and other nearby locations.) 
   
When is OLI?  Sunday, August 2nd - Friday, August 7th 2020 
   
Professional Development Credits:  All participants are eligible to receive up to 37 hours of NYSED-CTLE Credit. 3 hours of P-credit are available for an additional fee via NYC DOE-ASPDP.
   
Tuition:  $175 (Free for teachers participating in the 2019-2020 Teaching Through Opera program.)
   
Registration:   A Registration Link will be posted here in Spring, 2020.   
*Participants who wish to receive P-Credit must register for this course via ASPDP first, then complete the registration link above. A separate fee will be due to ASPDP.
