Bard College Conservatory of Music to Offer Bachelor of Music in Voice Performance Program in Fall of 2021

BARD COLLEGE CONSERVATORY OF MUSIC announced today that it plans to offer in the fall of 2021 a new Bachelor of Music in Voice Performance program as part of its five-year dual-degree track for undergraduates.

The program will integrate the school’s prestigious musical training with rigorous academic pursuits in the liberal arts and sciences, developing students’ artists skills through exploration of a range of repertoires and performances opportunities, as well as emphasizing exploration and “musical self-actualization,” the program said in a statement issued today. Undergraduates enrolled in the Annandale-on-Hudson school's program will complete two degrees—a Bachelor of Music and a Bachelor of Arts in a field other than music—over a five-year period. Students’ musical enrichment will be complemented by coursework that will bridge all of the college’s divisions, and vocal performance students will access faculty in both the prestigious Bard College Conservatory of Music and the Bard College Music Program.

The program’s faculty is slated to include Stephanie Blythe, Teresa Buchholz, Richard Cox, Lucy Fitz Gibbon, Kayo Iwama, Ilka LoMonaco, Rufus Müller and Erika Switzer. Performance opportunities will include work with the Chamber Singers led by James Bagwell; an annual, fully-staged Opera Workshop at Bard’s Fisher Center; and performance classes led by Rufus Müller. Performance coursework will be matched with body and breath awareness courses in the Feldenkrais Method and/or Alexander Technique.

Founded in 2005, the Bard College Conservatory of Music is unique in that it requires all students to engage with its five-year dual-degree program. The conservatory's Graduate Vocal Arts Program requires students to engage in private instruction; core seminars allying studies of music and the liberal arts; and workshops focusing on acting, diction and phonetics, language translation for singers, movement improvisation, opera, professional development, recitals, vocal chamber music and vocal ensembles. Composer and conductor Tan Dun serves as the conservatory's dean. spacer
