The Metropolitan Opera was founded in 1880 as an alternative to the previously established Academy of Music opera house. The “Old Met” opened in 1883 on the corner of 39th and Broadway, where it would flourish until 1966, when it moved to its current home at Lincoln Center. The artistic evolution of the company and the creative grandeur that we associate with the Metropolitan Opera is a result of enormous artistic and administrative work on every level. Join Jane Marsh as she explores the artistic history of the “Old Met” to the “New Met” of today.
