Animals in Opera

All tickets are sold out!

Saturday, May 02, 2020 11:00 AM

While animals have been a powerful force in telling – or enhancing - the story of an opera for centuries, the three most compelling reasons for animals on stage today are the composer’s dictate, the director’s vision, and long-standing tradition. Another is their sheer animal magnetism. Join lecturer Stephanie Pierson, whose husband was Production Stage Manager at The Met and whose dog had a starring role in Zeffirelli’s Falstaff as she examines the role of stage animals – both real and fantastical. She’ll be joined in conversation with Nancy Novograd, President of All-Tame Animals, and the exclusive supplier of animals to the Metropolitan Opera. Ms. Novograd will also be joined by her dog, Hunter, another Met pro!
