Comparing and Contrasting Great Interpretations Part 2: Seducing the Audience in French Romantic Repertoire

Saturday, April 01, 2017 2:00 PM

Presented by Naomi Barrettara
Duration: 1 hour 30 minutes
Part of the Comparing and Contrasting Great Interpretations series

The operatic art form is full of musical moments that seem to stop time. But what makes these moments so dramatically and musically affective? How can we begin to describe the unique qualities our favorite singers bring to each role? In this two-part study day, Naomi Barrettara aims to provide an in-depth exploration of these questions for opera enthusiasts and new comers alike.

The sumptuous musical and harmonic style of French opera has given rise to some of the most sultry and seductive arias. In the second half, we turn our attention to some of the most beloved arias by Gounod, Massenet, and Bizet, and explore the masterful artistry and unique sound that opera’s greatest stars have brought to their interpretations.
