Casualties of Love: Kát’a Kabanová

All tickets are sold out!

Tuesday, April 28, 2020 6:00 PM

Based on the play The Storm by the great Russian playwright Alexander Ostrosky, Kát’a Kabanová tells the tragic story of the young Kát’a, her weak willed husband, Tichon, and her cold and overbearing mother-in-law, Kabanicha. The opera premiered in 1921, when its composer, Leoš Janácek, was 67 years old and was said to be inspired by his unrequited love for the much younger Kamila Stosslova. Lecturer Harlow Robinson takes us through the history and musical intricacies of Janácek’s great tragedy.
